Potential NJ TRANSIT Rail Service Suspension – Effective Friday, May 16
NJ TRANSIT is alerting customers to a possible complete suspension of all rail service beginning at 12:01 AM on Friday, May 16, 2025, due to a labor dispute involving the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLET). This includes service on Metro-North west of Hudson lines operated by NJ TRANSIT.
At this time, the BLET membership has voted down a tentative agreement with NJ TRANSIT leadership. If a new agreement is not reached, rail service across the state will be fully suspended.
NJ TRANSIT strongly urges the following:
- Work from home if possible.
- Limit use of NJ TRANSIT services to essential travel only.
- Review and print the contingency plan, which includes details on bus routes, light rail, ticketing, cross-honoring policies, and regional Park & Ride alternatives.

John Smith
John Smith was brought up in Western Massachusetts. He fell in love and settled in NYC, where John finally earned his BA (summa cum laude) in English from Hunter College. He adopted two baby boys before moving to Townville in 2004. In 2007, he added a third baby boy to the family, and in 2011 moved to their present house on North Main Street in Smithville. Like residents of any community, John has sought to add as much value as he was offered. John has served on local boards and committees and chipped in whenever and wherever he could. The profound stability of his family life, coupled with a deep appreciation for the people of Smithville inspired him to run a successful campaign for Mayor. When not mayoring, he likes to hang out with his family, go for long walks with his dog Moose, and fall asleep while reading.
